3000 Women Take Over Church House To Launch Millennium Devotions Book

Its strictly women only around Presbyterian Headquarters tomorrow, Thursday 6 May, when the Presbyterian Women's Association holds its Annual Meeting in the Assembly Halls. With over 3000 expected to attend, there will be two meetings, one at 2.30pm and the other at 7.30pm.

Representatives of the 500 branches with a total membership of 16,500 from all over Ireland will fill the Assembly Hall for afternoon and evening rallies taking as their theme "Watch and Pray."

The title comes from a special book of daily devotions to mark the millennium being launched at the rallies.

'The PWA is celebrating the Millennium in several different ways,' explained the books editor, Mrs Alison McCaughan. 'This devotional booklet is the most personal of the ideas, a gift to each member to encourage personal devotion and in appreciation of the unstinting support given to Christ's Church by PWA members.'

The PWA will also install its Millennium President when Mrs Margaret Thompson from the Mall congregation in Armagh is appointed in succession to Mrs Phyllis Sleath who has completed her two years in office.

Guest speaker at the event is Mrs Ann Allen, convener of the Church of Scotland's Board of Social Responsibility.
