"Christmas Insights are of Lasting Value"
says Moderator in Christmas Message

The days leading up to Christmas are a time of preparation. Churchmen speak of Advent, while society generally sees an opportunity for shopping, illuminations, office parties, etc. Officially, the twelve days of Christmas begin on December 25 but in practice there is a change of mood after that date; people say, ³Itıs all over for another year² and turn their attention to other matters.

However, some of the insights of the Christmas season are of lasting value and should not be discarded with the withered holly. This is a time for the family, when exiles travel long distances to be reunited with their loved ones. Families and friends are among Godıs most precious gifts to us, and Christmas bids us treasure and maintain these relationships.

This is a time which shows that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Parents happily watch young children opening presents that appeared mysteriously overnight and seek no credit for themselves. The unselfish, magnanimous spirit has a permanent value, and could help Northern Ireland in the coming year.

This is also a time for worship. Many who are not regular churchgoers will hear about, or sing about, ³a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.² If you do not attend worship regularly, why not begin now?

May the real blessings of Christmas be yours to enjoy both now and always.
