A Time To Die

'A Time to Die?' confronts the issue of Euthanasia in a series of 7 seminars organised jointly by the Presbyterian Church and Care and beginning next Tuesday night (11-11-97 at 8.00pm) in Fitzroy Presbyterian Church, Belfast.

'The campaign in support of euthanasia has had a high profile in recent months,' explained Presbyterian minister and joint organiser, Rev Norman Cameron. 'There is much confusion about the issue and the moral dilemma it poses and the aim of these conferences is to present a Christian appraisal of euthanasia.'

The case will be presented from both the medical and theological perspectives and will attempt to give some answers to questions like 'Is there a time to Die?' , 'Is our body our own?' and 'What about quality of life?'

Arguing from the medical practitioners viewpoint will be Dr Wesley McGowan, a consultant from Coleraine and adding a theological perspective will be Rev Prof Stephen Williams, Professor of Systematic Theology at Union College in Belfast.

'These are deep issues but ones which people want to be informed about,' thinks Norman Cameron. 'There is no simple answer but we are hoping to provide people with a Christian framework to allow them to think through their own position on euthanasia in relation to the particular circumstances they face.'
