As has been their long time tradition on the Wednesday closest to St Patrick's Day, the Irish Mission of the Presbyterian Church is to hold a series of celebrations to highlight its evangelistic work throughout Ireland. All start at 8.00pm and will take place in Ballynahinch, Randlestown, Coleraine, Londonderry, Cookstown, Lurgan and Clontibret.
Each celebration will be addressed by full-time mission workers and will present the work undertaken by the mission which is largely based south of the border and involves door to door visitation, visits to schools, organisation of childrenšs meetings and running of local bible study groups.
David Temple, the mission's superintendent describes the role of the mission as supporting the main church. "We are very much an evangelistic organisation and through our work we want to build up the church and support it by presenting the message of the gospel to as many people as possible."
On sale at each venue will be a new book, 'St Patrick's Spiritual Pilgrimage,' written by former OMF missionary Alfred Johnston. The book seeks to give an understanding of St Patrick and what he accomplished for God in Ireland while clearly challenging today's spiritual neglect and half heartedness.
