Moderator in Omagh Presbytery Visit

Next week Presbyterian Moderator Dr Harry Allen is undertaking a series of official engagements in the Omagh Presbytery which takes in the Enniskillen and Omagh areas.

During the week long visit which begins this Sunday (02-03-97), Dr Allen will visit congregations, take part in special services and get out and about to see the work that the church is doing in the community. łOne of the things I've enjoyed so far in my year of office is meeting people going about their day to day work," said Dr Allen. "That's where it's vital we all show our Christianity in action and I hope in my visits to Presbytery I can encourage everyone in the practical daily outworking of their faith."

Among the plans for the Moderator's week are visits to the Omagh Livestock Mart and the Ulster American Folk Park. He will be meeting children and staff at schools in Aughnacloy and Fivemiletown and has been invited to lunch at Omagh District Council Offices. In addition, Mrs Allen, who will be accompanying the Moderator, will visit Belleek Pottery.

Part of the Moderator's role is that of a pastor and encourager to ministers and others engaged in full time church work and among the meetings planned for Dr Allen is a reception for ministers at First Omagh Presbyterian Church which will be followed by the normal monthly Presbytery meeting.

The Moderator's visit to Omagh will finish next Sunday when he conducts a special service in First Omagh to mark the centenary of the opening of the present church building.

During their year of office Moderator's pay official visits to four Presbyteries and Dr Allen has already visited the the Presbyteries of Dublin, Iveagh and Carrickfergus.
