Following their January meeting held last night, Tuesday 07-01-97, The Presbytery of North Belfast issued the following statement.
The Presbytery of North Belfast regrets the current steady slide into intensified violence. We forthrightly condemn all recent attempts to kill and injure and in particular the van bomb found in the grounds of Belfast Castle. We commend the vigilance of the public in spotting the danger and the Security Forces in their swift and effective response. As there can be no justification for violence to achieve political ends, we call on loyalist and republican paramilitary groups alike to refrain from any further shootings, bombings or beatings and urge them to end all violence permanently.
