Following the shooting incident on Friday night, Presbyterian Moderator Dr Harry Allen has issued the following statement.
It would be all too easy to be disheartened that at a time when most people are celebrating 'peace to all men', there are those who are still prepared to carry out evil actions like the shooting on Friday night.
Regardless of who the targets were, to attempt to destroy life at any time, and especially when people at a family time are remembering the one who came to bring life; is totally evil and enhances no cause.
The birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas brought a light into the world that evil has never put out and never will. And there is light in Northern Ireland - a talks process where politicians are working hard to try and resolve our problems - a loyalist ceasefire that I pray will keep intact despite the provocation - and a resolve of the vast majority of people for a community in which violence has no part.
So let us be encouraged at this season of 'peace to all men'. The fragile light of peace may flicker many times but ultimately I believe it will burn bright.
