Moderator in Dublin Presbytery Visit

Next week Presbyterian Moderator Dr Harry Allen is undertaking a series of official engagements in the Dublin and Munster Presbytery. Geographically this is the largest presbytery of the Presbyterian Church and takes in from Sligo to Cork and Dublin across to Galway. During the week long visit which begins on Sunday (03-11-96), Dr Allen will visit congregations, take part in special services and get out and about to see the work that the church is doing in the community. "It is always vital to remember that we are the Presbyterian Church in Ireland," said Dr Allen. "Having studied at Trinity College, I always enjoy being in Dublin and am looking forward to seeing the work of our church both here in the city and further south."

Among the plans for the Moderator's week are a meeting in Dublin's Mansion House with the Lord Mayor, a return visit to Trinity College, and the opportunity to see at first hand the work of the Presbyterian Church in Athy, Cork and Kilkenny

On Tuesday Dr Allen will visit Adelaide Hospital and later in the day will meet the staff at Dolebusters, an initiative of Adelaide Road congregation aimed at finding work for young people. On Saturday Dr Allen will attend a Board of Social Witness conference looking specifically at the Church's social action programme in the Republic.

Part of the Moderator's role is that of a pastor and encourager to ministers and others engaged in full time church work and among the meetings planned for Dr Allen is a reception for ministers and their wives at the Lucan Youth Centre.

During their year of office Moderatoršs pay official visits to four Presbyteries. He has already visited the Iveagh Presbytery and later in his year of office will visit the the Presbyteries of Omagh and Carrickfergus.
