Presbyterian Moderator Dr Harry Allen issued the following statement following the bomb explosion at Thiepval Barracks.
I would express my utter revulsion at this cruel and calculated act of violence, the aim of which was to first kill and injure people and then kill and injure those coming to their aid.
Let me assure those injured that my thoughts and prayers are with them and their families and with the hospital staff attending them.
I would also appeal to the loyalist paramilitaries to maintain their ceasefire. Their restraint in the face of extreme provocation has brought them much credibility. Violence never can and never will achieve political results and can only take us further away from the just and lasting settlement we all yearn for and which our elected representatives must continue to pursue with vigour.
I would call on all who believe in the power of prayer to be constantly in prayer that God would deliver us from the perils of the present time.
