Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev. Ken Doherty |
Woodvale, BelfastWoodvale Presbyterian Church is situated on the corner of the Woodvale Road and Ballygomartin Road, overlooking Woodvale Park. The Church building was opened in September 1899, although the congregation had been worshipping since 1895 in a small iron hall situated in what was then known as McBride's fields - at the junction of two country lanes. Over the past one hundred years the Church has seen many changes, but it continues to be a central part of the community. In 1947 plans were completed by the local churches for a District War Memorial. In view of the strategic position of Woodvale Presbyterian Church, and its distinctive tower and steeple, it was agreed that a clock should be affixed to the tower. Woodvale Presbyterian Church now has around 400 families; most of these families live in the area, though increasingly the congregation is made up of members who travel into the district. We meet for worship twice each Sunday at 11.00am and 7.00pm. Two books have been published giving the history of the Church. The second book 'Great is Thy Faithfulness' was published in 1995 to coincide with the centenary celebrations. The church halls are in continual use during the week for Girls' Brigade, Boys' Brigade, Sunday School, Church Choir, Midweek meeting, Presbyterian Women's Association and Sunshine Hour. No Congregation stands still, nor can it afford to do so. We look to the future and we trust that under God we will the local community for many years to come. Our website (www.woodvalepresbyterianchurch.com) is updated on a regular basis. It seeks to provide an insight into the ongoing work of the congregation, as well as seeking to be a window to the local community. |
