Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev. Jack Lamb |
Townsend Street, BelfastTownsend Presbyterian Church is situated on the 'Peace-line' between the Lower Shankill and Lower Falls/Divis Street area of Belfast - a very disturbed location. It is also sited beside the main cross-city motorway and is 5-10 minutes walk from the city centre. The congregation was established in 1833 in the fields at the end of the town. The current church was erected in 1868. It is a magnificent building capable of seating 1400 and has an excellent organ - both are in excellent condition. Today the church has 220 families, most of whom commute in to worship. There is a set of superb school buildings and halls adjacent to the church. In addition there is a separate Outreach Centre which is in the process of expansion. Currently the congregation is mainly engaged in mission within its own community but does participate in cross community activities, mainly through the Outreach Centre. The church hosts conventional organisations; eg. Boys' Brigade, Girl Guides, Presbyterian Women's Association, Sunday School and other church-based activities. The Outreach Centre is involved in community development, working with vulnerable persons of all ages and abilities with particular focus on the informal education of children, physically disabled people, young people (some with challenging behaviour patterns) and their families. Visitors are always welcome. |
