750 Antrim Road,
Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev. Richard Kerr |
TemplepatrickTemplepatrick is a large village close to the M2 twelve miles north of Belfast, with easy access to the International Airport and the cross channel ferry at Larne. According to tradition St. Patrick, during his mission to Ireland in AD 450 is thought to have baptised converts at an ancient holy well in the village and is credited with founding a Church which stood in the area of the old graveyard, where the Templetown Mausoleum now stands. Presbyterianism has a long historical association with Templepatrick, the first Minister being the Rev. Josias Welsh, grandson to John Knox, the Scottish reformer. The Church is located 2 miles outside the village on the main Belfast road. To mark the 350th Anniversary of Presbyterianism in Templepatrick, a short story of the congregation entitled 'Templepatrick 1619-1969' was written and a further history to mark the Sesquicentenary of the congregation was published in 1995, 'Building up a Church.' The buildings have developed from a Meeting House, Stables, School Room and single story Manse to the excellent property in use today. Further extension to the buildings, car park and surrounding area will make the complex even more attractive. 1997 statistical returns show that there are 305 families. Many commute to Belfast, whilst others live and farm in the area. Sunday Worship is at 11am. Evening Worship is at 7pm on the first Sunday of each month. The extensive suite of halls is used each night by The Girls' Brigade, The Boys Brigade, Youth Club, P.W.A., Bowling Club, Youth Link, Friendship Circle and a Midweek meeting for Prayer and Bible Study. Whilst we value our link with the past, our aim is to be an active part of the visible Church, seeking to advance the Kingdom of God, encouraging spiritual growth, and promoting a loving, caring fellowship which will be a positive influence for God in the local community and further afield. |
