149 Melmount Road,
Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev. J. Trevor Williamson |
Sion MillsSion Mills Congregation was established in the 19th century in the village built to house the workers of the local Herdman's Linen Mill. The Congregation was united with Urney, its neighbour, in 1899. Urney had been in existence since 1654, one of the mother congregations in the area. Sited at the side of the main road, the church is one of the 4 places of worship in the village. The Congregation is looking forward to celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the church in 2016, and to that end, hopes to undertake a programme of refurbishment, which will be an exercise of the faith of the members. Financial contributions for our Renovation Project will be most gratefully received. In the 1990s, the Congregation acquired the next door building which had been the village's Primary School since the 19th century. It was renovated and is now in use as the Church Hall. The Halls are the venue for weekly meetings of the Sunday School, Prayer Meeting, Mothers' and Toddlers' Club and Youth Clubs. Other organizations use the premises on a regular basis, but not weekly: Friendship Circle, Presbyterian Women. There is also a flourishing slimming club. The Congregation gathers for worship on Sunday mornings at 10.30 a.m. The Sunday School meets at 9.30 a.m. Visitors to our services are most welcome. Sion Mills is a popular centre for those who want to enjoy the local scenery or fishing on the local rivers. The local Building Preservation Society is working hard to adapt the Old Mill Building for modern uses. For more information visit the congregation website at www.sionmillspresbyterian.co.uk/ |
