Scarva Street, Banbridge

The town of Banbridge, with a population of almost 15,000, lies 25 miles South of Belfast, just off the main road to Dublin. The recently opened "Outlet" on the A1 is a popular retail location. The F.E. McWilliams Gallery is also a popular spot for visitors.

Joseph Scriven, the writer of the hymn 'What a friend we have in Jesus', was born in Banbridge. A memorial has been erected close to the Civic Buildings. Captain Crozier, who helped discover the North West Passage, was also born here.

The church was built in 1829 and 30 years later, as a result of the 1859 revival, the growth in membership increased to such an extent it was decided to build another Presbyterian Church in the town and so the congregation of Bannside was formed.

Scarva Street church lies just off the main street at the beginning of the road to the village of Scarva. From the A1 driving south, at the first sign for Banbridge, leave the carriageway and follow the road into the town. At the top of the hill turn right across Downshire Bridge onto Scarva Street and the church is a few hundred meters on the left. We meet for worship on Sunday at 11.30am and 6.30pm. The Sunday School and Bible class meet at 10.30am. There is a creche operating during the morning service.

Our large suite of halls accommodates many mid-week activities - The Boys' and Girls' Brigades; Youth Fellowship; Presbyterian Women's Group; Indoor Bowls; Luncheon Club; Men's Fellowship. We meet on Wednesday night for prayer and Bible study.
