Scarva Street, Banbridge

The town of Banbridge, with a population of 13,000, lies 25 miles South of Belfast, just off the main road to Dublin. At the first sign for Banbridge, leave the carriageway and follow the road into the town. Scarva Street church lies just off the main street at the beginning of the road to the village of Scarva. Joseph Scriven, the writer of the hymn 'What a friend we have in Jesus' was born in Banbridge. A memorial has been erected close to the Civic Buildings.

The shoe factory is the biggest source of employment, though many of our people travel to the cities of Craigavon and Belfast for employment.

We meet for worship on Sunday at 11.30am and 6.30pm. the Sunday School and Bible class meet at 10.30am. There is a creche operating during the morning service. We meet on Wednesday night for prayer and Bible study.

Our large suite of halls accommodates many mid-week activities - The Boys' and Girls' Brigades; Presbyterian Women's Association; Indoor Bowls; Badminton and Youth Club.

The church was built in 1829; and 30 years later, as a result of the 1859 revival, the growth in membership increased to such an extent it was decided to build another Presbyterian Church in the town and so the congregation of Bannside was formed.
