Ravenhill

Ravenhill Presbyterian Church is situated on the east side of Belfast, in a residential area on Ravenhill Road which leads southwards out of the city from the Albert Bridge which spans the River LAgan approximately one kilometre from the city centre.

The congregation, which currently (1997) comprises 435 members, was formed in 1898 and meets for worship in a church building constructed in 1905 and reopenedin 1981 following extensive damage caused by an accidental fire in 1979. The church building has a modern public address system to assist those with hearing defficiency and which permits audio recording of the service.

From its inception the congregation has esablished a strong evangelical tradition, a stance developed by the five ministers who have served the congregation through its hundered years of witness.

The majority of the members, who cover a wide range, live in East Belfast and most of those who are employed work in the Greater Belfast area.

In addition to the Sunday services, Sunday School and mid-week Bible study and prayer meetings,a wide range of activities is provided on weekdays in the adjacent suite of halls - Presbyterian Women's Association (Monday), Girls' Brigade (Tuesday), Women's Meeting (Wednesday), Boys' Brigade (Thursday) and Christian ENdeavour Societies (Friday).

The Sunday Services include traditional and modern hymns with organ and piano accompaniment, prayers and a Bible reading on which an expository sermon is preached. Occasionally a PRaise Group composed of young peole playing brass, wind, stringed and keyboard instruments is used to accompany the singing.

The manse (the minister's residence) at 27 Ravenhill Park Belfast, is about 1.5 kilometres from the church.

New members and visitors are very welcome.
