Newtowncrommelin

Newtowncrommelin Presbyterian Church is located just 9 miles from Ballymena nestled in the foothills of the entrance to the Glens of Antrim.

The village of Newtowncrommelin was started in the early 1800s when a Huguenot family, by the name of Crommelin, purchased the townlands of Skerry East, Skerry West and Scotch Omerbane. The Presbyterians here in conjunction with those in other neighbouring townlands held open air meetings in a field, preparing the way for a church. The Presbytery of Ballymena erected Newtowncrommelin Presbyterian Church as a separate charge in June 1826. Mr. Joseph Anderson was ordained as their first minister on 8th August, 1826.

Newtowncrommelin has approximately 75 families, spread out over the rural district. Worship services are held at 12.00 each Sunday. There is an evening service held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 7.00pm, except for July and August. A Sunday School and Bible Class meets before the morning service. There is a meeting every Wednesday evening at 8.00 for Bible study and prayer. During the latter part of June, all of July and August and for the first three sundays in September evening worship is held in the Cushendall Church building at 7:30. The summer evening season ends with a communion service on the third Sunday of September. The PWA meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
