McQuiston Memorial

McQuiston church is situated on one of the main arterial routes into the city of Belfast, and our people have been maintaining a witness for Christ on and around the Castlereagh Road since 1892. At one time a close-knit community, the social unrest of the 1970s and 80s together with the redevelopment of the late 1990s unfortunately brought decline and depopulation to the area. However, within the last 5 years a new vibrant community has grown up around the building, with new housing developments having just been completed and others in the course of construction. These then, are exciting days of challenge, with new opportunities presented to us as our church building lies almost at the centre of these urban regeneration schemes and our community combines both urban and suburban districts of the city and many housing types.

We are very much looking to the future, and the completion of a new church hall complex in 2005 which has equipped us for work and ministry in the 21st century, marks our commitment to the Willowfield community. In worship services we seek to combine the best of both contemporary and traditional musical styles, and we encourage our members to use their gifts and their musical talents in leading worship. Children leave for Sunday School about half way through our morning service, and a créche is available for younger children. The evening service is informal and gives us another valuable opportunity to study God's word together. A number of bible study and prayer groups meet through the week in homes and on the church premises, and on both Sunday and Friday evenings the Youth Group called "Wifi" meets for a range of activities.

Weekly activities for younger and older people include a toddlers club, lunch club, a seniors group, the 19th Belfast BB Company, various sections of the Guides, a badminton club, a ladies aerobics class, and both men's and women's groups.
