MagherallyFounded in 1656, about 2 miles North East of Banbridge, Magherally is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism in the greater Banbridge district. It is also known as the 'Valley Church' to distinguish it from the Parish Church, which is known as the 'Church on the Hill'! The Congregation has been worshipping in the present building for over 250 years. The Church Hall was built in 1959 and extended in 1998. The main hall can seat around 300 people and the minor hall 60 people. The present Manse was built in 2006 and is set in approximately 1 acre of lawns. It is situated about 1.5 miles from the church, overlooking the main Belfast to Dublin Dual-Carriageway and has a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Magherally has 200 families in 2007. A significant proportion of these are drawn from the farming community, the rest from folk resident in Dromore and Banbridge. Magherally is a warm and friendly congregation - cherishing the traditions inherited from the past, while looking forward to building God's Kingdom in our locality for the future. We seek to encourage our members to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and to grow in faith, worship, witness and service. Our services combine the traditional and contemporary in a blend of the old and the new, and include both senior and younger members in worship and ministry to the glory of God. Crèche facilities are available and children's church takes place each Sunday. Both our Church Choir and Praise Group are always willing to welcome new members. We are encouraged by the formation in 2006 of a Youth Praise Group and the part they play in leading worship at some of our Services. God has commanded us to go into all the world and spread the saving news of the Gospel. The congregation believes that mission is an important function of the church. A Mission update on one of three couples in missionary service is given each month, and Prayerline and Prayer Focus are made available each week. A full range of activities takes place -
Visitors and new members will be made very welcome.
