First LurganLurgan is a market town situated some 20 miles south west of Belfast. The town was originally founded by the Brownlow family who were English Planters during the reign of James 1 (1603-1625). The Presbyterian congregation was founded in the year 1684. The present church building on High Street was built in the years 1827-28 and continues to provide a focal point for the activities of the church members. On 15th June 2007 Rev David Henry was installed to the ministry in First Lurgan congregation. Together Rev Henry and the Kirk Session are promoting the development of an active community of Christian believers through relevant teaching, meaningful worship, prayer and fellowship. The congregation seeks to offer a place of restoration to all who live in the locality. In First Lurgan there is a wide range of activities for all ages including uniformed and non-uniformed events for children and young people; Mums and Toddlers Group; PWA and Ladies Group; Mid-week Prayer and Bible Study; and Bowlers' Fellowship evening. The morning service is a blend of worship styles with teaching. Children leave after a short time for their own programme. The evening service is a more informal event in the church halls followed by refreshments. For further details about services or events, contact Rev Henry. |
