Railway Street, Lisburn

Railway Street Presbyterian Church came into existence in 1860 when the Revival of 1859 resulted in First Lisburn Presbyterian Church being inadequate to accommodate the numbers attending public worship. The first committee was elected in November 1860 and the congregation met for worship in a hayloft in Castle Street until the present church was opened in March 1864. Many improvements to the church buildings have taken place over the years and in 2007 the church will undergo a major refurbishment programme, which will see the installation of new pews and the provision of an enlarged dais at the front of the sanctuary to accommodate modern forms of worship. A new link area between the church and the Minor Hall will include a communal area with a coffee bar for informal meetings.

We in Railway Street aim to create and maintain a fellowship where everyone feels welcome and valued and where, through encountering the living God, we are inspired towards true Christian discipleship.

During the morning service there is a Crëche for children aged 1 month to 3 years, Beginners' Church for pre-school and P1 children and KIDS Church for boys and girls of primary school age. Refreshments are served after the morning service, providing an opportunity for people to meet, chat and make new friends. On the first Sunday evening of each month, a contemporary service is held with lively praise led by many young instrumentalists.

Youth organisations include Rainbow Guides, Brownie Guides, Cabin Boys, Anchor Boys, and Junior and Company Sections of the Boys' Brigade. There is a Youth Club for children of primary school age and various youth programmes for teenagers.

Organisations for adults include Presbyterian Women's Association and Soul Mates, while Fellowship Groups, Prayer Groups and a 422 Club for older members also flourish. Leisure activities include Ladies' Badminton and Indoor Bowling and the Railway Street Ramblers enjoy a monthly outing throughout the year.

The annual Church Weekend each September is a popular event for the whole family.

Transport to and from church for the elderly can be arranged if required.
