First Kilraughts

First Kilraughts is one of the earliest congregations of North Antrim. It is in the Route Presbytery and traces its colourful history back at least to 1660. It is situated on the ancient hill of Carnageeragh and may be reached (approx 400m) from the Kilraughts Road on the Moyan Road. It is set in the midst of an agricultural community and most of its members derive their living off the land.

Today about 180 families belong to the congregation and worship in a building erected in the early 1970s after the original meeting house was accidentally destroyed by fire. The impressive current building is bright, octagonal in shape with a copper tipped spire. It has three sets of very distinctive stained glass windows and a seating capacity of 400. Although perhaps unusual from the exterior, the meeting house style is still evident on the inside with pews gathered around a central pulpit and communion table. The choir sits on the north side integrated with the congregation. The Cosgrove pipe organ was designed by the Irish Organ Company and installed when the building was opened in 1975. Connected to the church building are halls and ancillary rooms well used by young and old alike with all the normal range of church organisations.
