7 Bangor Road,
Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev Noble McNeely |
First Holywood1st Holywood (Bangor Road) Presbyterian Church was founded in 1615 and is the second oldest Presbyterian congregation in Ireland. There are now approximately 400 families connected with the congregation. The present building was built in 1841 and occupies a prominent site on the Bangor Road in Holywood opposite the ruins of the old Priory Church. In 2004 the Worship Centre was opened. This has enabled many changes to take place in congregational activities, The new facility consists of a welcome area, offices and additional rooms and has proved to be a useful addition to the church's amenities. The praise for our Sunday Worship is led by the organist, instrumentalists and a rota of singing groups along with the Youth Choir. The evening service is of a more informal nature and held in the Worship Centre. A service of Prayers for Healing and a 'Pitstop' service (for students) are held monthly on Sunday evenings. Youth activities which include Bible Class, Sunday School, Children's Church, Creche, Mother and Toddlers, Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, Junior Youth Club, Youth Choir, Pitstop and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme are attended not only by young people of the congregation but also by many from the Holywood Community. Other congregational activities include small groups that meet for Bible study and fellowship either in homes or the church buildings, the M5 Group (Mature Men's Monthly Morning Meeting), Walking Group, Presbyterian Women, Ladies' Morning Bible Study, Lunch Club and the Thursday Club. More information about the congregation and its activities can be found on the church website www.firstholywood.co.uk. |
