Greenisland

The congregation serves the people in and around the rapidly expanding village of Greenisland, on the Belfast side of Carrickfergus in County Antrim. There are nearly 700 people connected in 350 families. The Church building is on the Upper Road, on the Carrickfergus side of the Golf Club. Sunday Services are at 11.00am and 7.00pm.

Christian work began in the area in 1860 when the Ebenezer Hall was opened for worship in lower Greenisland. In 1912 and 1932 halls were erected in upper Greenisland where the congregation's Patterson Hall now stands. Greenisland was formed as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland on Thursday 27 September 1934. The Church building was opened on 6 September 1941 and the manse beside it was built in 1970.

The congregation has grown considerably since the first people joined in 1934. Members are drawn mainly from Greenisland, but also from Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey.

Sunday worship blends the traditional with the contemporary and the Minister seeks to make the Scriptures relevant the lives of people today, inviting them to commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and to a practical outworking of that commitment in daily life. There is Prayer Time before the morning service at 10.15 and during the service Cradle Club where babies and very young children are cared for. Children aged from 3 to the end of P7 join with the whole church family for the first 20 minutes or so of the service and then go out to their own special time called KFC (Kids for Christ). There is also League of Church Loyalty.

During the week there is a prayer meeting on Wednesdays at 7.15am, The Boys' Brigade and Girl Guides, PWA, Mothers and Toddlers, Indoor Bowls, Badminton, Choir and Band Practice, and Model Railway Club. There is also a Caring Group and Cradle Roll. We run also run Bible Studies and Discipleship courses during the week. Sometimes this takes the form of small groups meeting together at different times and in different places, and sometimes it is once central meeting once a week or fortnight in our church halls. Call any time or visit our Web Site you will be very welcome!
