Granshaw

Granshaw is a rural congregation with a strong farming tradition and its beginnings go back to the last years of the 18th Century. First a session house was used and then the present chruch building was opened in May 1879. It is located in the heart of the Castlereagh Hills adjacent to La Mon Country House Hotel.

Granshaw Presbyterian Church has grown rapidly in the past 10 years and in 1997 had 260 families. Many of these families moved into the area in recent years as a result of housing developments and others travel from furthre afield.

We meet for worship at 11.30am on Sunday mornings. There are evening servioces every third Sunday at 7pm. Communion services take place on the third Sunday mornings of May and November, and there is an evenning communion on the third Sunday in January. During July and August the Sunday services are held at 11am. The church Sunday School and Bible Class meet each Sunday morning at 10.20am from September to June. Bible Study and Prayer Groups meet in the Minor Hall on Thursday evenings at 8pm and in the Manse on Tuesday mornings at 10.30am. Other groups meet in private homes.

To cope with the rapidly growing congregation, a new church hall suite was opened and dedicated in March 1992, and has been in constant use since. Granshaw has very active Boys' Brigad and Girls' Brigade Companies, as well as a Kids Klub, Youth Club, Youth Fellowship and Young Adults Group. Upwards of 200 young people use the church facilities each week. There is also a branch of the Presbyterian Women's Association and an Indoor Bowling Club.

Close contacts are maintained with neighbouring churches.
