Crumlin Road, Belfast

The church is situated on the Crumlin Road on the corner of Tennent Street. It grew up in the later part of the 19th century as the large linen mills created close-by attracted a large number of people to live in the area. The first minister Rev. D.K. Mitchell came as a student in 1863, was installed as minister in 1869 and retired in 1919! There have been four other ministers prior to the present minister - Rev. R.J. Paterson (known as 'Catch-my-pal' from his deep involvement in the temperance movement), Rev. W.J. Harrison (minister during the 2nd World War and afterwards when the church building was destroyed in a German air-raid in 1941), Rev. W.L. Haslett (minister when the new church building was re-opened in 1956) and Rev. W.J. Vance (who after following the pattern of ministering in the church and being chaplain in Crumlin Road Prison, became full-time chaplain in the prison in 1975). After 26 years the Rev Thomas Harte was called to Trinity Boardmills and was succeeded, in 2003, by the Rev Jack Drennan, formerly from Clontibret and Smithborough in Co Monaghan and one time assistant minister in Ballysillan Presbyterian Church.

The area of the congregation has seen much dislocation due to the disturbances of the past 30 years and on-going redevelopment. While there has been much para-military activity and social need in the area we see this as an opportunity to share the goodness of Jesus Christ and be salt and light in the community.

Quite a full range of activities are still carried on amongst all age groups, focusing especially on children and young people as well as those in the senior citizens age bracket.

Mission Statement:"We want to be a congregation that is passionate about building disciples of Jesus Christ. We will do everything we can to make men and women into true followers of Jesus christ."
