Clarkesbridge & First Newtownhamilton

Clarkesbridge is set in rural South Armagh on the border with Co. Monaghan. First Newtownhamilton was founded in 1781. Clarkesbridge was established as a Secession congregation in 1791. The union of the congregations took place in 1888. Services alternated between the two meeting houses until the mid 1980s when First Newtownhamilton (the "Hill Church") was closed. All services now take place in Clarkesbridge.

At present the congregation has 50 families and a Sunday School with 25 children on the roll. Other activities for young people include a Youth Club at nearby Tullyvallen Hall, a Youth Fellowship and a Good News Club. A monthly PWA and weekly Midweek Fellowship also take place. A very close relationship exists with the nearby Baptist assembly at Lurganearby, Co. Monaghan and the joint Reformed Presbyterian charges of Tullyvallen and Fairview, as well as the congregations of Garmany's Grove and McKelvey's Grove.

Not unaffected by the Troubles, the congregation is very loyal and warm-hearted. Young families predominate, with reverent, joyous worship.

Sunday School meets at 10.00 am. The Midweek is on Wednesdays at 8.00 pm (8.30 pm during British Summer Time).
