CairncastleCairncastle is a small village 4 miles North of the town of Larne, close to the Antrim Coast Road. Cairncastle has been a centre for Christian worship for more than 1,000 years. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland can be traced in origin to 1642 when the first Presbytery was formed at Carrickfergus. Cairncastle congregation called their first minister in 1646. Cairncastle Presbyterian Church has 210 families in 1997. Many of these families have lived and farmed in the area for generations, though increasingly the membership is made up by "commuters" who travel to work in larger towns and the city of Belfast. We meet for worship at 11.30am on Sunday Mornings. An evening programme of teaching and discussion called "Sunday Night Live" meets every two weeks. Two Home groups meet during the week, and 3 discussion groups meet on Sunday. The Church Halls continue to function as a focus for the local community. There is an Indoor Bowling Club, Boys Brigade, Girl's Brigade, Parent and Toddlers group, Senior Citizen's Friendship Club, Sunday Schools, Presbyterian Women's Association, Youth Club, and Youth Fellowship. All of these have a vital part to play in building bridges, points of contact with the local community.
