Ballysillan

Ballysillan Presbyterian was opened in October 1838, and rebuilt in 1891. It is situated in the North of the city, though in an area which has seen more than its share of 'The Troubles'.

Currently the church has around 500 families, though the population of the area - and hence the age profile of the congregation - is skewed somewhat towards older people.

Since 1995 the emphasis has been on building for the future ministry in a congregation in an area which has become increasingly dominated by nationalist influences and paramilitary activity.

However, we have been able to run a fairly normal range of activities, and might even suggest that our youth work has flourished over the years!

Recent major redevelopment (1997) of the premises, with substantial Government help, is geared towards the strengthening of this youth work, and making the congregation's ministry engage more obviously with the needs of the community around us in which we are placed.

We expect to develop our links with community over the next few years, and to work on a partnership basis to this end with the wider Presbyterian Church, Government agencies and a number of Christian Trusts.
