Congregations of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland |
|
Harmony Way,
Sunday Service:
Minister: Rev. Mairisine Stanfield |
First BallynahinchFirst Ballynahinch were established as a congregation in 1696 but the current church building dates to 1751. The building was used as a rest place for the militia troops during the Battle of Ballynahinch in 1798 (United Irishmen and the Rebellion). The congregation has approximately 250 families and is a very mixed group age-wise. They have lots for young people - Youth Club, 2 Youth Fellowship groups (11-13 yrs YOYO (You're Only Young Once) and 14+ yrs JAMPOT (Jesus and me plus others too). They have been involved, from its inception, with other congregations in the town in the establishment of a youth project called 'The Edge'. This was set up as a safe place for young people, particularly, those not connected with the church. It is an old shirt factory, remodelled and very trendy! For adults there are several options. There are 2 Alpha courses every year (an introduction to the Christian faith), Home Groups and also 'Passion Groups' for folk who want to grow in their spiritual gifting and walk.
