Ballygomartin

Ballygomartin Presbyterian Church is situated at the junction of Ballygomartin Road and West Circular Road in North Belfast.

Very briefly, the background of the Congregation is as follows. Housing development was rapid in the period immediately following the Second World War. A new cause was seen to be necessary in the upper Ballygomartin area. The present site was procured in 1945. A temporary hall was erected in 1947. The current Church building was opened and dedicated on 4th September 1954.

The congregation has had five ministers during the past 50 years, and is currently vacant.

The members of the Church are a warm hearted people, friendly, committed people. The vast majority of the membership lives within the parish area, though some members travel in from a distance.

The parish area is a large one, but the congregation wishes to reach out to all its parts. It comprises the following estates: Highfield, Blackmountain, Springmartin, Forthriver, Glencairn, Westway and Lyndhurst (Lyndhurst 'old' and 'new'). New houses are being built daily in the parish. The potential for growth is enormous.

Services are held twice every Sunday - 11.30 am and 7.00. All are welcome.

The congregation can be justly proud of the work of its Youth Organisations. Numbers at all these organisations reflect the respect that the congregation is held in in the community. There is the 42nd Girls' Brigade Company (105 girls), the 53rd Boys' Brigade Company (25 boys), the 77th Scout Group (65 boys), the Sunday School (105 children) and the aptly named Crossroads Youth Club (30 members).

There is much for adults too. Indeed many of the members of the Church find not only a strong spiritual home, but a very pleasant social circle as well.

Dr Robert Graham is the Clerk of Session. He will be delighted to respond to any query regarding the Church.
