Ballycastle

Ballycastle is a small seaside town and holiday resort on the North Coast of County Antrim; about 13 miles from the Giant's Causeway and 5 miles from Belfast. It is the principal town of Moyle District Council, the port for Rathlin Island and for Campbelltown (Scotland) in the summer months.

The Christian faith in Ballycastle goes back to St. Patrick's time. Presbyterianism has been in the locality since around 1646, and Ballycastle Presbyterian Church was founded in the town in 1828. It is a congregation of around 220 families (1997 figures). Many of these people are brought up in the locality, and with their roots on the land. Others are 'incomers' who have come to engage in business or the professions, or more often to retire to this beautiful area. Some of our most regular attenders for many months in the year are people who have a second home or a caravan in Ballycastle. In addition to a busy congregational life the church seeks to exercise a special ministry to tourists through the visitation of caravans, and the provision of Church tours each Wednesday morning through the summer months.

The church works closely with the other Churches in the community, and most of our youth work is done jointly with our local Church of Ireland (Anglican) congregation. Organisations include Sunday School, Bible Class, Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, Indoor Bowling Club, Presbyterian Women's Association, Church Prayer Time, Youth Fellowship, and Church Choir. Many of our members are involved in the many organisations and activities in the wider community.
