Congregations of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland |

82 Church Street, Sunday Service:
Minister: Vacant |
First AntrimFirst Antrim is the oldest Presbyterian Congregation in Antrim town, having begun in 1726. The present building was opened in 1834. There are 42 elders and approximately 700 families associated with the fellowship. The usual range of organisations cater for the youth with Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, Junior Christian Endeavour, Youth Fellowship, Nurture Groups and Sunday School, together with a Youth Club numbering over 250 members, largely from the local community and not church related. The 'Mums and Toddlers Group' has a cross-community membership and 'Time Out 4U' caters for mothers with pre-school children on Thursdays. One of our elders is a Church-planter in the Philippines with OMF International, while the incoming Directors of OMF Ireland belong to the congregation. Another elder is a full-time worker with Stauros, a Christian organisation that serves people with addictions. Twelve men have entered the Presbyterian ministry in recent years, and 30 young people have had overseas missionary experience short-term since 1980 and at present 5 members are in full-time Bible/Theological College training. A small group ministry is evolving with up to 10 groups meeting on a Wednesday night and others for senior citizens, young couples, mums in Mums and Tots and youth, on various other days weekly. The church has a pipe organ, choir (approx 24 members) who lead in morning worship, praise band with a predominance of wind instruments (approx 12 members) and singers who lead the evening worship. We aim to bring people to Jesus and membership in His family, develop them to Christlike maturity and equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world in order to magnify God's name. |
