Sunnyside House is conveniently situated on the outskirts of Bangor close to transport, shops and churches. Since 1981 the Presbyterian Residential Trust has had responsibility for the Home's management as formerly it was run by Shankill Road Mission. Surrounded by a landscaped garden, the building comprises 30 single and 1 double bedroom, all with wash hand basin. Residents are encouraged to have items of personal possessions and furniture in their rooms. The Home is tastefully decorated throughout and has attractive, comfortable sitting and dining rooms.

Staff at Sunnyside believe that they have achieved a warm, friendly, informal atmosphere, combined with respect for personal privacy and dignity within a caring Christian environment.

A wide-ranging optional programme of therapy activities is organised daily for the residents. This includes entertainment, outings and reminiscence therapy. All staff members are given in-service training and are competent in assessing and meeting the needs of individuals.

The Home seeks to provide care in a specifically Christian ethos and environment. Residents have the choice of attending regular worship services and fellowship times held within the Home and a conscious effort is made to ensure residents are offered spiritual support and encouragement when requested. The New Sunnyside

The new Sunnyside House, presently being built across the ring-road from the present Home, is due to be completed in October 2005.

The new Home will have accommodation for 45 residents with en-suite bedrooms and a selection of sitting rooms in this magnificent single story building.

The Presbyterian Residential Trust will be undertaking a major recruitment programme for additional staffing.

Construction costs are £2.74 million, with much of this funding coming from the Department of Social Development to Fold Housing. The Presbyterian Residential Trust will be investing some £268,000 in the project.

Linda Wray, Residential Services Manager, confirmed that, "Our current residents will transfer to the new Home on its completion which is scheduled for October 2005."

We ask for your ongoing prayerful support for:

  • successful construction of the Home.
  • staff and residents as they plan for the move.

Lindsay Conway, OBE, Director of Social Service for the Board of Social Witness, stated that, "The replacement of Sunnyside continues our plan to replace Homes when it becomes feasible. We welcome our new partnership with Fold and look forward to working with them as this development progresses."

The Foundation Stone for the new Home was laid on Friday, 15th October, 2004, preceded by a Service of Dedication in Ballyholme Presbyterian Church Halls.
