Board of Social Witness - Congregational Support Services |
|
|
VolunteeringThe Presbyterian Church, its Boards and agencies provide a wide range of opportunities for young people and others to gain experience as volunteers. Often this leads on to professional training and career development. Volunteering is also one way of supplementing the resources of congregations and church agencies. The Board of Social Witness runs a volunteering scheme for people aged 20 years and over and offers placements in different projects in Belfast and Dublin for up to 12 months. A maintenance allowance is paid to full-time volunteers Helping those in need is what social witness is all about. Christ requires each of us to demonstrate His love and His holiness through our worship and service. You can get involved in pastoral care in your own church, in one of our social witness projects or in a similar project in your own area. Everyone must pray about it, most do contribute to it through the United Appeal and some have the gifts to become directly involved, either as volunteers or by working full or part-time in a social witness project. Suzanne McMullan took the opportunity of working alongside staff in Thompson House. "After graduating I knew I wanted to be involved in some aspect of church work. The volunteering programme has let me see first hand what is involved in a project where specific professional skills are required but alongside which it is also possible to show my faith in a practical way." A volunteer application form can be downloaded in PDF format.
