Suicide and the Church

A new conference, which is open to Chaplains, Ministers, Deaconesses, Elders and Church Workers from all denominations is being held by the Presbyterian Church's Board of Social Witness in Church House on Thursday, 15 May 2008 from 10am - 3pm.

Entitled Suicide and the Church, the conference will tackle the increasing problem of suicide in this country and will seek to offer delegates practical advice on how the Church can help to combat the problem as well as giving guidance on how to pastorally care for the families and friends who are left behind.

Various speakers will address the difference aspects of suicide, according to their expertise and experience:

Dr Paul Millar - "Why do people take their own lives?"

Rev Mairisine Stanfield (First Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church) - Pastoral Care

Mr Peter McBride - Self Care

Dr Kirsten Kearney - "How do families survive?"

Mr John Wilkinson (Principal of Dromore High School) - A School's Perspective

There is no cost to attend the conference and lunch will be provided.
