About the Board of Social WitnessThe Board covers a wide range of areas. Adult Services include the provision of accommodation and support for ex-offenders and facilities to help those dependent on alcohol and drugs. We assist the congregational life of our churches by giving a Christian perspective and advice on social issues for both the church and the wider community. Information and resources on a number of social issues are available from the Board Office. Family services covers areas such as child protection, the new guidelines of which can be downloaded by following the link, and Friendship House, an after-school club situated in South Belfast and run in partnership with the Presbyterian Women's Association. Older People Services provide care for the elderly, running six residential homes, one nursing home and two sheltered housing projects. Special Ministry Support deals with Chaplains and forces, while also providing training for both young people and parents on the dangers of drug addiction, and catering for the spiritual and social needs of students at Derryvolgie Hall. Special Needs are provided for through Kinghan Mission, a church for the hearing-impaired, and Willow Brook supported housing scheme which provides care and accommodation for those with a learning disability while maintaining a level of independence.
