Encounter is about rediscovering the wonder of meeting with the living God in worship. Each Sunday, we are invited to draw near to him, yet the privilege can easily be lost through distraction, routine or simply going through the motions.
James 4:8 reminds us of God’s promise: ‘Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.’ Encounter helps us consider how this can become more real in our worship together.
The movements of worship
Though orders of service vary, certain movements remain central each time we worship:
Gathering as God’s people at his invitation
Confessing sin and receiving assurance of forgiveness
Listening to God’s Word with open hearts and minds
Responding in faith and obedience
Receiving blessing and being sent out to live for him
Becoming more aware of these movements helps us focus and participate more fully, bringing heart, soul, mind and strength into worship.
The Gift of Worship
Worshipping with our congregation week by week is an intentional act of placing ourselves before God. His grace flows to us in the words we sing, pray and speak, sometimes aloud and sometimes quietly within. It is a privilege we are called to treasure and reclaim, especially in a culture where church can be seen as optional.
Encounter Sessions
The Encounter sessions use biblical pictures of meeting with God to refresh our understanding of worship. They provide practical suggestions for approaching Sundays with fresh anticipation and expectation.
Together, they invite us to learn again what it means to encounter God in the midst of worship.
