For the third time in nine years the election for the Presbyterian Moderator has ended in a tied vote.
Rev Norman Hamilton, minister of Ballysillan, Belfast and Rev Norman McAuley from Greenwell Street, Newtownards both received 5 nominations from the 19 presbyteries that met around Ireland today to vote for a new Moderator.

Rev Derek McKelvey (Fisherwick) and Rev Ivan Patterson (Newcastle) each received 4 votes and the remaining vote went to Rev Roy Mackay (Second Comber) .
The Presbyteries will be asked to vote again on just the two tied names at their meetings next month in order to find a successor to present Moderator Dr Stafford Carson who continues in office until the Presbyterian General Assembly meets in June.

Rev Norman McAuley (Greenwell Street, Newtownards) 5 Votes: Armagh, Ballymena, Newry, Omagh, Tyrone.
Rev Derek McKelvey (Fisherwick) 4 Votes: Ards, East Belfast, South Belfast, Monaghan.
Rev Ivan Patterson (Newcastle) 4 Votes: Derry/Donegal, Iveagh, Route, Templepatrick.
Rev Roy Mackay (Second Comber) 1 Vote: Down.
