Hungarian Reformed Church Aid – Refugee Crisis

Global Mission

Hungary

Help PCI’s partner, the Hungarian Reformed Church provide humanitarian assistance to the tens of thousands of refugees who are arriving in their country and staying in camps or passing through on their way to other countries.

The Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) has an established partnership with the Reformed Church in Hungary, the largest protestant denomination in Hungary, with over 1.6 million members.

Hungary already has the highest rate of people seeking asylum relative to its populationin the whole of Europe, 3,317 per million inhabitants.  Many of the new arrivals are seeking to travel on to other European countries, some of those arriving are staying in Hungary and refugee camps have been set up.

The church’s aid organisation, Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (HRCA) has been involved in providing humanitarian assistance, water, food, blankets, mattresses, hygiene kits, clothes and nappies, to the refugees as they are able to at refugee camps, border crossings, train stations or to people as they travel along roads.

HRCA continues to monitor the situation and aims to respond as best they can to help those in need, where they are including at refugee camps, border crossings, train stations or along roads.

In Debrecen refugee camp they are also providing gynaecological care to those requiring it and are running activities for children in the afternoon

The average daily cost for a providing an adult refugee with daily food and water, a hygiene pack, blanket and mattress is €18.50 (around £13.35).  All donations, (large or small) to this project will be greatly appreciated.
