Situated in the province of Málaga, Torre del Mar Presbyterian Church was planted over 25 years ago to enable English-speaking people of all denominations and none to meet with others and worship in their own language.
It is the congregation's vision to see Spanish and English Christians working side by side and building relationships and expressing God’s love and mercy as they share Christ with all people in Spain.
After a period where the church met in local hotels and then in a shop unit within the town, the decision was taken to adopt a “fresh expression” type model of church which meant taking the church more into the community, rather than waiting for the community to come to the church.
The small congregation now meets in Legends Tapas Bar and Restaurant at 11.00am on Sunday's with a more relaxed and informal gathering. The aim is to allow for a Jesus centred, interactive time of worship and study where questions and queries can be voiced and discussed, and people leave having interacted with the theme of the service. Those that come along have fully embraced the new approach and are now thinking about how to use this openly transparent and accessible act of worship to build bridges through the venue, into the immediate English speaking community.
At the beginning of 2016, a Christianity Explored group commenced. It is hoped to use this format over the incoming months as a means of providing a non-threatening means for those who may be interested in exploring the faith in an expectation-free way.
